May has been another busy month with lots going on in the skies above and down here on earth.

Welsh Refugee Myth Busting Session

I attended a session run by City of Sanctuary to understand the Welsh Government's vision for those genuinely seeking asylum here. Having hosted a Ukrainian refugee family for nine months before they returned home, I found this session particularly impactful. It was enlightening and emotional, dispelling many myths about refugees and highlighting the importance of compassion and support.

Brynford Community Council

This month, Simon and I decided to alternate community councils, so I joined Brynford. Most of the discussion focused on the upcoming D-Day celebration. I was delighted to help source musicians for the event and even more thrilled that my choir, Cor Y Llan, was asked to perform. It promises to be a memorable event for the community.

Full Council AGM

The Full Council AGM was an emotional experience. Hearing Gladys, our outgoing chair, speak about her year in office while dealing with significant personal loss was truly inspiring. Lord Barry Jones also delivered a motivational speech about public service.

Local Café Quiz Night

I attended a fantastic quiz night at our local café, Betty Berkins. If you enjoy trivia and delicious cakes, keep an eye out for the next event. It’s definitely worth a night out!

Rhosesmor’s Proms in the Park

I was delighted to be invited to Rhosesmor’s Proms in the Park featuring the Buckley Brass Band. The event was well-attended, with fantastic music and amazing scones and cakes. My boys had a wonderful time, and my youngest is now keen to learn the trombone! A huge thanks to Gail and her dedicated team for organising the event and to everyone who helped move it to St Paul’s Church to weatherproof the day.
