April Update
30 Apr 2024

Eight weeks ago, the idea of standing for election hadn’t even crossed my mind. It's true what they say about being in the right place at the right time; a series of events led me to put myself forward and launch a fast-paced, dynamic campaign. I owe a huge thanks to Paddy and Paul for their support and mentorship.
Meeting so many of you on the doorstep has been a highlight for me. As a people person, I've thoroughly enjoyed our conversations about how we can improve our area. I see my core role as being among you, advocating for the issues that matter most to you. I am here to help.

First Introduction to Brynford Community Council
It was great to meet the Brynford councillors—a friendly group led by Linda, with Alan as the experienced clerk. We discussed various topics, including street scene issues and our National Lottery funding application for basketball goals and a multi-use games area at Brynford School. Engaging local youngsters to provide feedback on community projects was a key focus. We also reviewed planning applications and planned future community events, including the upcoming D-Day event on the green. It's fantastic that Brynford hosts these events to bring the community together.
Roads Inspection with Simon and Neil Hickie
Simon and I had a drive around with Neil Hickie to discuss the state of our roads. Neil explained the challenges he faces, as his maintenance responsibilities stretch from Mold to Afon Wen for just one day a week. He assured us that potholes are being repaired in order of priority, which unfortunately means our B and C roads are further down the list. The worst roads will be scheduled for resurfacing once the water table drops and the new machinery is operational.
Pentre Halkyn Litter Pick
A big thank you to Mavis and the team for organising the Pentre Halkyn litter pick. It was fantastic to see so many residents come together to keep our village neat and tidy.

First Meeting with Halkyn Community Council
The Halkyn Community Council meetings are very professional and business-like, with a group who care about the community. Similar to Brynford, street scene and planning were key topics. Additionally, we discussed an application for funding to support the cream tea and the planned Rhosesmor Party in the Park. It's great to support these community initiatives.
First Full Council Meeting
Sitting in the chamber for my first full council meeting was quite daunting. We covered several important topics, including the rolling review of the members' code of conduct, specifically the monetary threshold for declaring gifts. Another key discussion was the diversity calendar, aimed at promoting inclusivity and celebrating the diverse cultures within our community.
There was also a confidential agenda item with significant implications. While I can't share specifics, it highlighted the serious responsibility we have as councillors. This meeting reinforced my commitment to being informed and advocating for the best interests of Brynford and Halkyn.
Youth Concert
Attending the Youth Concert was truly inspiring. Watching the youngsters from our ward perform with such accomplishment was a joy. Special thanks to Wendy Sigsworth for organising and to St Paul's for hosting and supporting this valuable event. As a passionate advocate for youth music and creativity, I feel motivated to do more to promote such activities. I am considering starting a free community music group—watch this space!
